Director Peyton Reed is coming back for third helpings of Marvel’s Ant-Man franchise.

According to Deadline, director Peyton Reed has officially signed on to helm the third film in Disney and Marvel’s Ant-Man franchise. Reed will join Paul Rudd in the threequel, who is expected to reprise his role as the titular superhero.

News of Reed’s involvement in the threequel is bound to be cause for excitement for fans who’ve enjoyed the previously two installments in the franchise.

As MCU fans already know, Reed previously served as director of the first installment in the franchise, as well as on the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Currently, there’s no word on what Ant-Man 3 will focus on. In addition, Disney and Marvel have yet to give fans an insight on when we can expect it to hit the big screen.

That being said, the fact that the studios have locked in Reed as director is good news as far as production behind the scenes goes.

Speaking of production, there’s no official word yet with regards to when the movie might start filming. That being said, a source close to the project recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that shooting on Ant-Man 3 could start toward the end of 2020, or toward the beginning of 2021.

With that timeline in mind, it’s possible that we might see Scott Lang return to the big screen sometime in 2022.

In addition, THR also points out that the decision to delay shooting on Ant-Man 3 is likely due to the fact that Disney and Marvel have plans to shoot both Thor: Love and Thunder, plus the Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, prior to heading back to the Quantum Realm.
