During the press tour for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, director Peter Jackson promised he has every intention of tackling a Tintin sequel when The Hobbit trilogy is completed.

Jackson initially planned to film a sequel to The Adventures of Tintin, the 2011 Steven Spielberg film he produced that won a Golden Globe, earlier this year, but those plans were put on hold due to reshoots on The Hobbit.

ComingSoon.net has a translation of Jackson’s remarks on the project via Badtaste.it, where he was quoted as saying, “As soon as I’m free of The Hobbit, I’ll be going back into doing Tintin. It was held up by The Hobbit, but we have every intention of doing another Tintin movie, and it’s just waiting on me to be done with these Hobbit movies.”

The third and final Hobbit film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again hits theaters in December 2014. Given the fact that the performance capture work on these Tintin films is so extensive, don’t expect to see Peter Jackson’s Tintin sequel until 2016 or 2017, unless he is somehow able to begin work on the project before that December 2014 date, which seems unlikely.

The Adventures of Tintin was penned by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, although it seems unlikely that any of these talents will be available for the sequel, given their current commitments — Wright and Cornish penned the Antman film, which Wright will direct, and Moffat has his own commitments to Doctor Who and Sherlock.
