No longer busy directing Middle Earth movies (or is he?*), Peter Jackson appears set to helm an episode of BBC’s Doctor Who.

The announcement comes via a great video posted to Jackson’s Facebook profile in which he talks about receiving e-mails from Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat. The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit director rants about ignoring the e-mails because they’re rarely coherent (a reference to Whovian complaints about the show?), when Peter Capaldi — the show’s current Doctor — arrives on scene and hand delivers a message from Moffat himself. The video is pretty damn entertaining for a sorta-kinda announcement video (“Doctor Who fans are a little more tense than Tolkien fans”). While an announcement wasn’t explicitly made in the video, it’s safe to say that this is a done deal. Capaldi and a Dalek wouldn’t be in it otherwise.

*Also, let’s talk about how The Silmarillion is laying on the table with lots of bookmarks inside of it. In case you don’t know, fans have been clamoring for Peter Jackson / Warner Brothers to create a Silmarillion movie based on the Tolkien book set in Middle Earth. Having that book on the table in a big video like this is a TOTAL troll move, Jackson.

Jackson has expressed interest in working on Doctor Who previously. Last year Moffat said he spoke to him about the possibility, but Jackson was too busy with The Hobbit to make a commitment.
