X-Men: Days of Future Past may have lost the element of surprise for its Saturday Comic-Con panel, as it’s now been revealed which characters Peter Dinklage and Josh Helman play. Some additional plot details have also been exposed, which are quite spoilerish.

Comic-Con is fast approaching, and while 20th Century Fox has been keeping the details of X-Men: Days of Future Past under lock and key for their panel on Saturday, somehow details concerning Peter Dinklage and Josh Helman’s characters have leaked, along with some very specific plot details which explain the use of time-travel.

First off, the studio will be discussing X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Wolverine, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and according to Vulture: “a major surprise.” If you’re attempting to steer clear of spoilers, we advise you to stop reading now.

The “major” surprise will reportedly be a look at footage from X-Men: Days of Future Past, and according to Vulture, there will be over a dozen cast members heading to Comic-Con to promote the X-Men: First Class sequel. The other details they’ve learned are the characters Peter Dinklage and Josh Helman will be playing.

Game of Thrones actor, Peter Dinklage, will be playing the film’s villain, Bolivar Trask, who is the creator of the “mutant-hunting Sentinel robots.” This should be very exciting news for Dinklage fans, and we imagine he’ll do an incredible job as a baddie in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

It’s also been a secret as to who Josh Helman will be playing. Some rumors were that he could be playing Cyclops, as some writers felt he looked similar to the actor who originally played him, James Marsden. According to Vulture, Helman will be playing another major villain, a young William Stryker.

Fans may remember this villain in X2: X-Men United, played by Scottish actor Brian Cox. A younger version of the character was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he was played by Danny Huston, and was attempting to build Deadpool: a mutant with a multitude of powers.

Director Bryan Singer will also be revealing details of the film’s plot, which is reportedly based upon the 1981 comic written by Chris Claremont. The story takes place in a dystopian future ruled by Sentinels (created by Peter Dinklage’s character), and results in Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) “sending her consciousness back in time” so that she can warn the rest of the X-Men.

The X-Men will then attempt to assassinate a senator that would have set in motion the events which end up causing the sentinels killing mutants and ruling the world. Ellen Page’s character will also be sending Hugh Jackman’s character, Wolverine, back into the past where he ends up teaming up with the young mutants shown in X-Men: First Class.

This makes sense, as we’ve just seen images of Hugh Jackman alongside James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult as the Beast. We’re interested to see how Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Mystique, will play into all of this now that she’s gone to “the dark side.”

The major plot detail though is that during all of this time-travel, something very bad happens to Kitty Pryde and Wolverine ends up being stuck under her powers while the rest of the X-Men attempt to figure out how to bring Wolverine back to the present.

It’s being reported that this may be how X-Men veteran Anna Paquin’s character, Rogue, ends up alongside the younger mutants. She’s one character we haven’t seen a set image of yet, so it’ll be interesting to see how the True Blood actress has evolved since her experience with the first few X-Men films.

Whether these rumors are true remains to be seen, but since the X-Men: Days of Future Past’s Comic-Con panel will be held this Saturday, we’ll know for sure in less than a week.

Bryan Singer’s interesting approach to keep fans informed with the filming of X-Men: Days of Future Past, by tweeting loads of set photos, appears to be a success so far. It definitely gives fans fun tidbits to chew on until X-Men: Days of Future Past’s release date, May 23, 2014.

Make sure to check back at Hypable starting Thursday as we’ll have eight writers attending Comic-Con to report from as many panels as possible this year. We expect our Comic-Con coverage to be very thorough and incredibly speedy.
