Peter Dinklage has inked a deal with Paramount to star in an upcoming comedy written by a sought-after screenwriter.

Our favorite Lannister has (finally) landed a starring role in an untitled R-rated comedy to be produced by Paramount. While the Game of Thrones star has been stealing scenes on film and television for nearly two decades, this will mark one of his first major starring roles and his first time carrying a major comedic film.

The comedy is being written by Andrew Dodge, who has one other writing credit to his name. Luckily, that credit is Toronto film fest hit, Bad Words starring and directed by Jason Bateman. The film (and Dodge) made a positive impression on critics at TIFF.

According to THR, the film centers around Dinklage’s character who tries to convince people that he is truly a leprechaun.

Despite the questionable plot, the project is being set up as an R-rated comedy with heart, in the same vein as Bad Words.

Dinklage is both an Emmy and a Golden Globe winner for his role as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO hit Game of Thrones. In addition to a few film projects due out in 2014, Dinklage can next be seen in the highly anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Dinklage is playing Bolivar Trask in the latest installment of the X-Men franchise, which is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2014.

There is no word yet on when the Paramount project is expected to begin production, let alone a release date. We’ll keep our ears open for news on this project as it comes.
