Peter Capaldi is set to work with Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss on a new project for the BBC, a ghost story written by Gatiss.

Peter Capaldi and Mark Gatiss both have Doctor Who ties, with Capaldi playing the Doctor himself and Gatiss both starring and working behind the camera on the iconic series. The two are coming together yet again, this time in a new project for the BBC, written by Gatiss.

According to Deadline, Capaldi is set to star in Martin’s Close, an adaptation of the classic M.R. James story. Mark Gatiss has penned the script to this chilling ghost story.

Martin’s Close tells the story of the 1684 murder trial of a man named John Martin. The story is told in the format of a report of the trial, and takes the reader on a horrifying journey of Martin’s alleged crime: murdering a young woman named Ann Clark.

John Martin was in love with Ann, but she didn’t reciprocate his feelings. After she “ruined” his marriage proposal, the prosecution claims he killed her.

We won’t spoil the ending for those who haven’t read the story, but when Martin is confronted with an apparition that is thought to be Ann, he behaves in a pretty sketchy manner. Despite it being tough to ask a ghost to come to court as a witness, enough people saw the interaction to feel pretty dubious about John Martin’s innocence, so he works overtime to get the case thrown out on a technicality.

For his part, Peter Capaldi will be playing a barrister named Dolben. He’ll be joining other cast members Wilf Scolding, Simon Williams, Sara Crowe, Fisayo Akinade and Elliot Levey. Scolding (Game of Thrones) will be playing the accused John Martin.

This 30-minute drama, which will release on Christmas, is the second Christmas ghost story on BBC Four from Mark Gatiss. Last year, he penned the well-received drama The Dead Room.

Gatiss expressed his excitement to Deadline regarding his return to BBC Four to tell another Christmas ghost story, saying, “After the delightful success of last year’s The Dead Room, it’s a fantastic privilege to continue the tradition of the Christmas Ghost story on BBC Four – and what better than one of my favourite stories by the master of them all, M.R. James?”

U.K. fans can watch Peter Capaldi get spooky this holiday season on BBC Four, but it’s unclear when Capaldi and Gatiss fans can catch the spooky drama. We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks on this chilling, new, holiday drama.
