Don’t expect much romance in Doctor Who series 8, Peter Capaldi says.

In a new interview with Marie Clare magazine, the new Doctor Who star spoke about what fans can expect from his character when series 8 premieres later this month.

He appears to have a take-it-or-leave-it attitude concerning what fans will think of him.

“I don’t know if people will like me or not; or if the show will be more successful or less successful,” he said. “But no matter what happens, someone somewhere will love me – I’ll be someone’s Doctor. Even if everyone else hates me.”

Don’t expect him and Clara to be romantically interested in one another, either (thank TARDIS). “He’s definitely not boyfriend material, because that’s not appropriate,” he said. “He’s less user-friendly [than Tennant] he’s not a walk in the park. The relationship with Clara is one of responsibility and debt and affection.

“[Eleventh Doctor] Matt [Smith] and David [Tennant] are much younger than me, much more handsome. And that’s what people have decided they want to take from it. I don’t think that will be happening for me. I don’t expect to be anyone’s heartthrob.”

Will Peter Capaldi’s Doctor be your heartthrob?

While Capaldi is certainly an older Doctor when compared to Smith’s and Tennant’s, we’re hoping that we enjoy his character’s presence all the same.
