Though you probably haven’t even seen the film yet, The Perks of Being a Wallflower book author and film director Stephen Chbosky is making it clear that he’d like to create a sequel.

The comments were made on the Los Angeles red carpet last week to E! Online. When asked about a Perks sequel, he responded, “I’ve thought about it. And I’ll tell you, honest truth, not in terms of the book, but I love these kids so much that I kind of want to bring them together one more time.”

As the author of the original story, it’s a pleasant surprise to see that Chbosky is so open to adding more to the story. Do note that he specifically said he’d only do a Perks sequel in film form – not a book.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower opens on September 20 in New York and Los Angeles. It opens in additional cities in the following weeks.

We too spoke to Chbosky on the red carpet and he told us about the challenges of bringing his Perks story to life on the big screen. “The biggest challenge… totally boring answer, but this is the truth. What’s the most challenging is that, when you write a book that is a first person, subjectatory, epistolary novel, and then you take it to something that’s completely objective like cinema, but with the same catharsis and the same emotional impact and the same sense of intimacy, they’re completely different languages and to find the picture that went with the thousand words was hard.” Watch his interview with us.

Do you think a ‘Perks’ sequel would be a wise idea under Chbosky?
