The critically and fan acclaimed Perks of Being a Wallflower has set its DVD/Blu-ray release. We know fans will be eager to grab this one after enjoying it so much in theaters over the past couple months.

The book to film adaptation, which was written and directed by author Stephen Chbosky, will hit store shelves February 12. Interestingly, it’ll be released for digital download three weeks early on January 22. Entertainment Weekly broke the news.

The following special feature information was confirmed:

• Audio commentary with Screenwriter/Director Stephen Chobsky
• Audio commentary with Director Stephen Chbosky and the cast
• “Best Summer Ever” featurette
• Deleted scenes with optional audio commentary with Stephen Chbosky
• Dailies

As for the aforementioned “deleted scenes,” Chbosky told us on the Perks Los Angeles red carpet back in September about a particular Perks of Being a Wallflower deleted scene. This is an exclusive quote we haven’t yet shared. “There’s one in particular – there’s a lovely subplot that involves Charlie’s sister, that Nina Dobrev was so brilliant in,” Chbosky told us. “It was the last thing [that got cut] and it broke my heart because it was just too much for the movie, but as a sequence I think people are going to love it.”

We shared additional quotes from our interview in September. One of the highlights was when we asked Chobsky if he could’ve seen anyone else direct the film. His answer? A blunt “no.” “Listen, I love a lot of filmmakers out there,” he said. “I really admire Cameron Crowe. There are so many people I think are tremendous. Jason Reitman is great.” But ultimately it came down to being “very true” to the story. “I know what [the story] means to some kids. I could not mess it up.”
