The first Percy Jackson book, The Lightning Thief, is celebrating its 10 year anniversary of publication by coming out with an exclusive hard cover edition.

Author Rick Riordan previewed the Lightning Thief 10th anniversary edition on his blog, giving us our first look at the Barnes & Noble exclusive.

The edition includes the new artwork for the series, which was recently updated by artist John Rocco. Across the bottom is a silver bar, stating this is a collector’s edition. (It looks so fancy!)

The front and back endpapers feature covers of the international editions of The Lightning Thief. Although done by different artists, much of the artwork is just as beautiful as the U.S. edition, which is no easy feat.

Inside the book there is plenty of bonus material. There are maps of Camp Half-Blood and the Underworld, plus some of Riordan’s notes, his initial cover letter, and more. There’s even a story from John Rocco about how he came up with the idea for the first Lightning Thief cover.

You can see Riordan’s pictures of the 10th anniversary edition below.

Before now, even Riordan has never seen some of the items in this 10 year anniversary edition, which truly gets us excited. There’s no word yet on whether the other books will get their own collector’s editions, but we think it’s only a matter of time.

Riordan ends his post saying, “Thank you to my readers for ten wonderful years of sharing stories with you. It’s been a blast, and I’m not done yet!”

Indeed he’s not. On August 18, we’re getting Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes, a beautiful coffee table book chock full of gorgeous art from Rocco and wonderful writing by Riordan, both detailing the various heroes found in Greek mythology.

The first book in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, titled The Sword of Summer, will hit shelves on October 1. Earlier today we analyzed the newly released first chapter of the book.
