You’ve probably never heard of Jack’s Mannequin.

Behind this name stands a man whose story is worth telling. When his high school band became iconic, frontman Andrew McMahon was transformed into a teen idol. His piano rock stories of teenage heartbreak and angst could be heard blaring from the stereos of high school parking lots and college dorm rooms. Amogst his success with Something Corporate, he traded his flip flops for Chuck Taylors, turned to argyle sweaters, and redefined himself, creating Jack’s Mannequin in 2005. Their debut album, “Everything In Transit” is a pop love story set in Santa Monica and remains my favorite album of all time. On the day the final song from this album was being mastered, McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 22. His story has inspired many and his creation of the Dear Jack Foundation has saved lives. Jack’s Mannequin’s follow-up album, “The Glass Passenger,” chronicles his fight and survival. On Tuesday, October 4th, their third album, “People and Things” will be released into the airwaves. After three years of waiting, I cannot wait to visit my local record store on Tuesday to pick up my fourth copy of this album after pre-ordering it on vinyl, CD, and digitally. Perhaps you’ve never heard of Andrew McMahon or Jack’s Mannequin until today but “People and Things” is a slice of piano pop perfection and you might find that it is just what you’ve been looking for.
