If LEGO can be made into a movie, why not Peeps?

Deadline is reporting that writer, director, and producer Adam Rifkin (Detroit Rock City, Underdog) and with his producing partners Brent Tinter and Brian E. Rochlin have optioned the rights for the film and tv rights to Peeps, the marshmallow candies that most commonly find a home in Easter baskets.

The move to have a potential Peeps movie follows a recent chain of marketing by Just Born, the Bethlehem, PA-based candy company that produces the chick-shaped candy. They produce $2 million worth of marshmallow chick (and bunnies) every year, and in recent years they’ve branched out into more and more avenues for Peeps marketing.

Just Born accepted Rifkin & Co.’s offer to adapt Peeps into a “Lego Movie-esque family epic set the night before a Peeps diorama contest, when a wayward Peep gets misplaced and must adventure through the fantasy lands of different-themed dioramas before the contest’s judging begins.”

The only way this movie will be acceptable if it’s the feature length adaptation of The Love Ducks we’ve all been waiting for (from Arthur season 4, episode 10, “My Music Rules/That’s a Baby’s Show!”):

All jokes aside, it would be interesting to see Peeps be something different like the almost psychedelic The Love Ducks. It would be very easy for the movie to be nothing more than a low grade, made for TV quality movie, so breaking away from that would be quite interesting.

What do you think about a ‘Peeps’ movie?
