New York Times Bestselling Authors P.C. and Kristin Cast will be taking on a new YA trilogy called the Sisters of Salem.

If you’ve read the House of Night series by the Casts, then you know their talent for creating and fleshing out a fantasy world is truly spectacular. The series even caught the attention of the Shadowhunters team and is being adapted for television.

Instead of vampires, the Casts will next be tackling witches. The new YA trilogy is called the Sisters of Salem and will feature “twin sisters who discover that not only are they witches, but that they have to save their small town — and the world — from imminent destruction.”

“We are so incredibly excited about the new Sisters of Salem trilogy from PC and Kristin Cast,” noted Monique Patterson, Editorial Director, St. Martin’s Paperbacks at St. Martin’s Publishing Group, and the Casts’ editor. “As soon as I heard the idea and their vision for the characters and the world, I was reminded of everything readers love about the kind of stories only they know how to tell.”

The House of Night series featured Kristin as P.C.’s frontline editor. With Sisters of Salem, they are now co-writers who are creating a new world side by side.

“The Sisters of Salem world has been a joy to create and co-author with Kristin!” said P.C. “I particularly love that we’re writing identical twins who are devoted to one another, but still very much their own people. The witchy aspect is as fun as it is fascinating. I think readers are going to enjoy discovering this new world. I do very definitely have a favorite character, though I don’t think I can talk about her yet!”

Fans of the House of Night series will certainly find plenty to love in the Sisters of Salem trilogy, which promises both intrigue and magic.

How has being co-writers changed the process for each of you?

P.C.: When I write with Kristin, we outline each book in detail — as in chapter-by-chapter. That’s a lot different than my process when I write by myself. When I’m not partnered with Kristin, I usually have an opening scene — some idea of a few scenes in the middle of the book — and then a conclusion. I like writing both ways, but I will admit to hating creating the in-depth outlines (thankfully Kristin’s a lot better at that than I am!).

KC: When working alone, I usually rewrite two times. The first draft is filled with the basics: dialogue, the framework for the setting, and some character development. During the first rewrite, I’ll go through and beef up the setting, do a better job of moving the characters through each scene and add a lot more emotion and character developments. For the second rewrite, I’ll really dial in on bringing each character to life.

Writing with P.C. is automatically different because she needs to have a clear vision of my chapters in order to write hers, so I have to write each of my scenes as if I’ve already gone through and done my first rewrite. It takes me a little longer, but I get better and better at it each time, which has really helped me when writing by myself.

What’s one aspect of the Sisters of Salem world that’s particularly unique or that you’re especially excited about?

P.C.: I love our unique take on Wicca! And also am very much looking forward to fans meeting one particular character who isn’t entirely human…

KC: I’m so excited to introduce readers to our system of magic. It’s not Harry Potter wizardry and it’s also not House of Night elemental. It’s its own thing and I’m so proud of it!

What have been some of your influences or inspirations for this series?

P.C.: My Pagan belief system helped influence our Sisters of Salem world. I particularly love writing Green Witch spells!

KC: Supernatural’s Rowena and Buffy’s Dark Willow are two characters I’ve drawn inspiration from. If given the choice, I’ll always take bad over good.

Is there anything that fans of the House of Night series will particularly like about the Sisters of Salem series?

P.C.: Like the HoN, readers will fall in love with our cast of main characters. We also bring alive our small town Midwest setting, which has been a lot of fun.

KC: In Sisters of Salem, there is a core group of friends that’s similar to the House of Night’s Nerd Herd. I know our HoN readers will love Hunter, Mercy, Emily and Jax just as much (if not more!) as we do.

Can you give us an update about the House of Night adaptation? What’s the one thing you’re especially excited to see come to life?

P.C.: We can’t say much right now except that there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Keep an eye on our social media for updates. I’m going to especially love meeting the kids who will play our Nerd Herd!

KC: The cats, the Raven Mockers, the bulls, the magick! There are so many things I cannot wait to see come to life. I could cry just thinking about all of it!
