Ghostbusters director Paul Feig has another female-centric film on his plate, and once again the comedy will focus on a woman who happens to be in the scientific field.

Between Ghostbusters and Hidden Figures, the latest trend seems to be reminding the world that women can make excellent scientists and mathematicians, too. Hopefully Turned On only adds to this growing movement.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feig will produce Turned On, which follows “a brilliant but awkward engineer who creates an android to fill in for her in life’s difficult situations. But things soon spiral out of control when the robot self-actualizes.”

The script is being written by Charlie Kesslering, who is current the assistant to the Late Late Show host James Corden.

THR also states, “Feig and Fox were attracted to its inventive script and liked that it has a great leading role for a funny woman.”

It’ll be interesting to see which of Feig’s funny women he taps for the project, or if we’ll be seeing a newcomer in a role such as this.

The always-reliable Melissa McCarthy is a solid choice, but any of the girls from Ghostbusters could fill the role with ease.

Feig is also working with Amy Schumer on another comedy, which is currently untitled and will also star Goldie Hawn. That’s slated for a May 12, 2017 release, so unless Turned On is pushed back quite a ways, we probably won’t be see Schumer leading the film.

Speaking to the inventive side of the industry, we recently learned that Beauty and the Beast’s Belle will be getting a change of backstory, making her an inventor like her father.

Providing women with more active and analytical roles in film is definitely a trend we can get on board with.

Who would you like to see leading Paul Feig’s ‘Turned On’?
