Brace yourselves for another reboot to hit your television screens. A new version of Party of Five is officially in the works, and it’ll feature a brand new twist to the story.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeform has ordered a put-pilot for a Party of Five reboot and they’ll be working with original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman to bring the new series to life.

The original iteration of Party of Five ran for six seasons on Fox and told the story of the Salinger siblings (played by Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, and Scott Wolf) — a group of five brothers and sisters who find themselves orphaned after their parents are killed in a fatal car crash.

Though Freeform’s new version will still center around a family of children trying to figure out how to make it in the world without mom and dad, there’ll be a bit of a twist to the story.

This time around, the story will focus on the Buenidas family, but the children won’t be orphaned. Instead the Buendias children will find themselves having to figure out how to survive as a family after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico.

It’s easy to roll your eyes at the idea of another reboot, but the new twist set to be featured on Freeform’s Party of Five might be just what the spirit of the original series needs to capture the hearts of a whole new generation of viewers — especially given that the series will be aiming to shine a spotlight on the incredibly real issue of immigration, and the harsh reality of what happens when it literally tears families apart.

There’s no word yet on when we might expect to see the Party of Five reboot premiere on Freeform.
