Leslie, Ben and Ron don’t find Gryzzl to be chillers at all after discovering they are data mining their customers. Check out our recap and share your thoughts on Parks and Rec episodes 5 and 6: “GryzzlBox” and “Save J.J.’s”

‘Parks and Rec,’ ‘GryzzlBox’ Recap

The show opens with Leslie and Ben being greeted at the door with a GryzzlBox drone delivering them a gift. It turns out to be a package of gifts which include Joe Biden’s fictitious book “Biden the Rails, 1001 Poems Inspired by My Travels Through Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor,” and a photo of the Supreme Court justices sipping on Friends-style milkshakes.

Ben slowly realizes that Gryzzl has to be data-mining from their users in order to create pin-point accuracy with these gifts. To get the low down on Gryzzl, Ben and Leslie go undercover to figure out how the company knows what people want but are figured out pretty quickly by VP Roscoe.

Leslie challenges Vice President Roscoe to debate the situation on data mining on TV – hosted by none other than Perd Hapley. Just before Leslie goes on TV for her debate, Ron discovers that Ben actually didn’t get the legislation correct when an amendment was made on the same day as Star Wars Episode VII came out – when someone sneaked in the note that Gryzzl could gather data and use it at any time.

Remember, we’re still in the future on this season of Parks and Rec!

“Is Star Wars the one with the little wizard boy?” asks Ron. Oh, Ron. The courtroom show goes on, but Ben interjects reminding the court that while data mining is legal, but it’s “not chill” – which greatly offends Roscoe. Perd, always aloof and unaware of what seems to actually be happening, calls a mistrial.

While all of this is going on, Tom decides to be Andy’s agent after Tom realizes that Andy does all the work at the TV show for a measly $100 a week. When Tom tries to negotiate with the show executives Andy insists that he gets the rights to Johnny Karate, or he is walking off the show. We later find out that Tom went to great lengths and secured the rights of Johnny Karate for Andy.

Meanwhile back at the Parks department, April is asked to talk to Craig’s interns despite not wanting to talk to them. She gives in and meets a girl named Jen who is eerily similar to April herself. “Okay sidenote: I’m going to file papers to adopt you as my child,” says April before insisting that Jen find another job somewhere else. Eventually April realizes that she is thankful for her job and goes out to find more interns for Craig – despite his displeasure with her insisting the previous ones find other jobs.

‘Parks and Rec,’ ‘Save J.J.’s’ Recap

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year! Treat yo’self 2017 has arrived! Tom and Donna head out on their Treat Yo’self vacay but this time it’s in Beverly Hills. While they are out and about enjoying sushi made by fish formerly owned by celebrities, Donna tells Tom he needs to be upfront about his interest in Lucy.

“When it comes to matters of the heart, I say ‘treat yo’self,'” says Donna before prompting Tom to look over his shoulder to see Josh Groban eating sushi from his own fish. Tom eventually asks Lucy out and she accepts being his date to Donna’s wedding.

Gryzzl is continuing to move forward with their heinous land battle with Pawnee. Roscoe announces on TV that they will be holding a free concert with performers U2 and Beyonce which entices Leslie to up the stakes herself. When commiserating over Pawnee’s changing landscape at J.J.’s Leslie announces that she is going to fight hard to save the diner.

At a protest outside of the office of the man who purchased J.J.’s Diner, the owner shows up and tells them they can’t have J.J.’s back before showering them in cologne that smells like a wet dog. April comes up with the idea that J.J.’s Diner should move to a location near their house which is not the best part of town but real estate is cheap.

Leslie and Ron think it’s doable and convince Gryzzl to purchase the row of trashy dilapidated buildings near April and Andy’s house which also means they won’t be ruining the land owned by the Parks department.

There are only a handful of episodes left of our beloved Parks and Recreation. What are your thoughts about the final season thus far?
