Donna gets married and Ben makes a big decision while holding stuffed zebras. Check out our recap and share your thoughts on Parks and Rec episode 7, “Donna and Joe.”

The way Parks and Rec‘s two episode a night/13 episode season worked out meant that one week had to have only one episode. NBC chose this week likely because it’s the midpoint, but now it seems just as possible that they knew this episode had enough going on to feel like a full hour.

Donna and Joe are getting married and Craig is their wedding planner. God help us all. Thankfully, April is Donna’s Maid of Honor. She “actually cares if (Donna) is having a good time. It’s weird.”

Ben and Leslie are getting ready to go to the rehearsal dinner, which means we get our first look at the triplets. They are…energetic. And babysitter Roz (Rachel Dratch) is overwhelmed. (“All three of them just bumped into each other and broke everything you own.”) Jen Barkley (the wonderful Kathryn Hahn) is calling Ben and Leslie incessantly. When they don’t answer, she shows up at their door to offer Ben the opportunity to run for the House of Representatives. Yes, like Congress…where they make laws and everything.

Leslie tells Ben to just act like he’s running for the rehearsal dinner and see how it feels. This means getting very drunk and dancing like a fool. It’s okay because Donna is quite charmed by it. Donna is also in a great mood because April has done a great job at managing the famously combustible Meagle family. April literally quarantines any potential troublemakers before they can cause trouble. This naturally includes an emotional Ginuwine.

Ben and Lucy are acting weird because an oblivious Ron let slip that Tom said he “would marry Lucy tomorrow.” Tom won’t let Ron eat until he fixes it. But Ron isn’t quite able to do that in his blunt fashion. Thankfully, Tom saves the day with some good old-fashioned honesty. Sure, he’s all in with Lucy, but not in an obsessive, get married tomorrow way.

Leslie and Ben must deal with the fallout of their drunken night. Leslie called “867-5309” 106 times. Ben somehow did something a little more destructive. He left four voicemails to Jen Barkley saying he will run for Congress and outlining his entire campaign. The day of the wedding, the massively hungover duo meets with Jen to discuss things some more.

Ben isn’t quite feeling his decision until they’re confronted by the press outside the church. Maybe it’s because he just dealt with a crisis of missing stuffed zebras or maybe he just wants to impress Leslie, but the politician in him finally kicks in and he confidently announces his candidacy.

In an episode named after them, Donna and Joe don’t have much screen time, but the time they do share onscreen is lovely, with some heartfelt vows and a drama-free ceremony. Maybe too drama-free. Donna thanks April for a smooth wedding but opines that she may have missed some of the old Meagle drama. Thankfully, April has the perfect ace in the hole: Donna’s estranged cousin LaVondrious (nice to have you at NBC, ?uestlove). He destroys the microwave that destroyed their relationship. “Now NO ONE gets any popcorn.”

Just like that, another successful Parks and Rec wedding is in the books!
