Team America: World Police cannot be shown in theaters in light of the Sony hack, Paramount told studios today.

Theaters like Alamo Drafthouse – which we told you last night would be showing Team America: World Police in lieu of the now-cancelled Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy The Interview – have been told by Paramount that they cannot run the film.

The decision comes just 24 hours after Sony pulled The Interview from all theaters worldwide. Paramount is likely afraid that North Korea will target them next if theaters begin showing 2004’s Team America: World Police in retaliation.

Paramount’s decision is the latest blow to free speech and is another worrying step towards a new precedent of bowing to terrorist threats that aren’t credible (the United States says they’re not credible).

To make matters worse in today’s case: Unlike with The Interview, there are no threats (right now) by GOP/North Korea concerning running Team America: World Police. This is a precautionary step for a fake threat.

Kim Jong-Un must be sitting back in his beautiful office and laughing at this. He didn’t even have to do anything this time – he just watched America’s fear of North Korea snowball.

Will theaters like Alamo run something else instead of Team America? Will Netflix pull Team America? Is Kim Jong-Un the happiest person on the planet right now?

Stay tuned.
