For the first time, Disney has released one of their short films online. Paperman premiered with Wreck-it Ralph in theaters this past November and was adored by critics and moviegoers alike.

In the words of Disney, “the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him.”

Paperman was directed by John Kahrs, and the studio says it introduces “a groundbreaking technique that seamlessly merges computer-generated and hand-drawn animation together.”

Paperman has received a nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the 85th Academy Awards, being held Sunday, February 24. The beautiful score was composed by Chris Beck, who’s work also includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and The Muppets.

Paperman is also available with Wreck-it Ralph on DVD/Blu-ray, hitting store shelves in February.
