The Pacific Rim sequel, previously titled Maelstrom, has gotten a new name according to a Legendary Pictures press release.

Production on Pacific Rim 2 officially began in early November, with Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) taking over directing duties from Guillermo del Toro and with John Boyega (The Force Awakens) signed on to play the lead.

In a press release from the studio (via comicbook.com), Legendary announced the movie’s title would change from Maelstrom to Pacific Rim: Uprising.

Both titles offer ominous undertones, but the new title also offers a bit of hope — depending on who is rising up, of course.

The news was tucked within the announcement of new hires:

Legendary today announced the hiring of three veteran production executives to its feature film operations including Herbert W. Gains, who has been named EVP of Physical Production, Valerie Flueger Veras who has been named SVP of Post- Production and Sara Flamm who will take on the SVP Physical Production role.

The press release also delves into the new hires’ roles, saying:

Gains’ responsibilities will include overseeing production of Legendary’s feature film slate including such highly anticipated projects as Pacific Rim: Uprising, Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu and Godzilla: King of Monsters.

Then later:

In Flamm’s new role she has already begun work on the production of Pacific Rim: Uprising, currently shooting in Australia.
