Rejoice! Pacific Rim: Maelstrom started shooting today, and the cast and crew are pumped to get filming underway.

The Pacific Rim sequel found a couple bumps in the road when Guillermo del Toro had to back out of directing duty, but luckily for fans, he’s still signed on as an executive producer and will be helping steer the film in the right direction.

More awesome news came in when Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) took over directing duties and John Boyega (The Force Awakens) signed on to play the lead. Most recently, Cailee Spaeny was also added as a lead.

On Wednesday evening, DeKnight took to Twitter to mark the first day of filming.

This was followed up by plenty of excited fans and well-wishers, which DeKnight took the time to thank.

He’s also put up his first post on Instagram, so go follow him, as he’ll probably be offering more insight into Pacific Rim 2 as filming continues.

And speaking of Instagram, Boyega also shared his excitement over the start of the movie’s filming:

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here's to a great adventure ahead ✌?

Scott Eastwood has also joined Maelstrom, and had some encouraging words to say from Australia a few days ago:

‘Pacific Rim 2’ will hit theaters February 23, 2018
