Outlander promised fans new footage today, and they came through. More is promised by the end of the week.

To help us get through “Droughtlander,” the time between now and April when the series picks up for the second half of series 1, the Starz team is promising to tide us over. Last month they gave us a look at extended scenes from the first half of the series. Today, it’s a teaser for the second half of the season with a full-blown trailer promised by week’s end.

When we last left off back in September, Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) was in mortal peril at the hands of her first husband’s, Frank Randall’s (Tobias Menzies), ancestor, Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). Black Jack had overpowered Claire and was holding her at knife-point at the garrison. He had given notice not to be disturbed, no matter what any of the guards might hear.

Just before the final credits of season 1’s first half rolled, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) burst through the window with a firearm that he then leveled at Black Jack Randall demanding that he let his wife go.

In this new footage, Sam Heighan kicks it off by telling us more is coming later this week, and we get a brief glimpse of the angst to come.

Claire starts narrating over images of pastoral Highland meadows and streams. Jamie is seen in dress clothes tossing rocks into the stream. Claire’s voice sounds peaceful stating, “This is now my home.”

The narration continues. Cut to images of Claire riding captive with the Highlanders, and walking in the forest with an unidentified, and much shorter woman. This woman, given the height difference, is likely either Gellis Duncan or Jenny Fraser, Jamie’s sister.

The final image in this sequence is off what seems to be a 1700s era boat with bodies or people going overboard. Claire’s narration reveals, “I felt adrift, anchorless in a running sea.”

Next we see a concerned Jamie asking a forlorn Claire, “Do you wish to live separately?”

She responds, “Yes, that’s what I should want.” She then reaches out her hand to Jamie’s chest, which he in turn clutches.

There is also a Starz season teaser for all of their upcoming spring shows. There are some extended versions on what is in the teaser. The boat sequence is quite obviously of Jamie and Claire jumping ship. Jamie and Claire’s hand holding is extended, and a bedroom scene is added.

Outlander season 1, part 2 begin on April 4 on Starz.
