Starz has just revealed some more details with regards to Outlander season 6— including a tentative date as to when fans can expect the series to return to television!

The wait between Outlander seasons this time around has been especially long, but the good news is that Starz is finally offering up a few more details with regards to what fans can expect from the series’ highly anticipated next season.

On Tuesday (June 1), Starz announced that production on Outlander season 6 has officially wrapped up.

While no official premiere date has been set for next season, the premium cable network did reveal that fans can expect to see Jamie, Claire, and the rest of their favorites return to the small screen sometime in 2022.

In addition, news of an early 2022 release date comes with words that Outlander season 6 will be a bit shorter than previous seasons. Specifically, it’ll be comprised of eight episodes in total— including a 90-minute season premiere.

Outlander season 6’s slightly shorter episode count comes as a result of production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to showrunner Matthew B. Roberts, however, the series plans to make up for it with an extended season 7, due to break ground on production next year.

“We are excited to get into the editing room to work on bringing the fans one step closer to reuniting with the family back at Fraser’s Ridge,” said Robert in a statement. “Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible. Dinna fast, we will then film an extended season 7 with 16 episodes next year as life returns to normalcy.”

Outlander season 6 is set to premiere via Starz in early 2022.
