Outlander fans were treated to an extra special Christmas present this year thanks to Starz, who has officially released the brand new opening credits for season 5. Check out the new opening sequence below!

The premium cable network took to Twitter on Christmas Day to share an extra special treat with fans of the hit series far and wide.

“We have a gift for the best fans ever. Here’s your first look at the new opening credits for Outlander Season 5. Happy holidays!” Tweeted the network from the series official Twitter account.

The series’s theme (officially titled “The Skye Boat Song”) has gone through quite a few transformations over the course of the past four seasons. Even so, the rendition that the series has chosen to go with for season 5 is nothing short of hauntingly beautiful.

This time around, the theme trades the strings heavy rendition from season 4 in favor of a lovely choral rendition.

As with previous years, new images are interwoven with some old favorites that offer up hints of what’s to come this year.

Character wise, we catch glimpses of both Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan), but also Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rakin), who of course met up with the Frasers in season 4. There even seems to be a reference to the villainous Stephen Bonnet, who wreaked havoc over the entire Fraser family last season.

Characters aside, we’re also treated to more landscapes of early America and to some snapshots of the looming Revolutionary war.

All in all, the new opening credits for Outlander season 5 make for a great way to set up the new season, which of course, we can’t wait to sink our teeth into!

Outlander season 5 premieres via Starz on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
