Outlander season 1, episode 8 just aired. The honeymoon didn’t last long as Claire and Jamie face danger in many forms this week.

Frank

The episode opens with Frank searching for Claire in the future. He keeps appearing at the police station, trying to get information on her. Frank is angry that the detectives aren’t doing enough. Claire has been missing for over six weeks and there is no sign of her. The detective tells Frank that Claire ran off with the highlander he saw under her window. Later, Frank is in a bar and a woman says she can show him where the highlander is. He agrees to meet her and continues to drink.

Hugh Monroe

Jamie, the ever inquisitive ex-virgin, asks Claire if what they have when they are together is normal. She tells him it is different, unusual even, but before they can get too far into the discussion, an arrow is shot at them. It’s Jamie’s friend Hugh Monroe, who brings him the news that he has found someone who can prove Jamie’s innocence. Monroe can’t speak, but Jamie understands him as he explains that he needs to meet Horrocks. Jamie is elated to think he may be cleared and can return with Claire to Lallybroch.

Under Attack

As Jamie and the others sit around the campfire, the horses begin to act strangely, and no, it isn’t from the excessive amount of PDA between Claire and Jamie. Another clan attacks, trying to steal from them, but in the end Ned scares them off by brandishing a gun. After the attack, they decide that Claire needs to know how to protect herself. Angus gives her lessons on how to kill using a knife.

Back in the future Frank meets the woman who basically set him up to steal the reward money. Frank is attacked by two men, but he manages to fight them off, showing his relation to Black Jack Randall. Reverend Wakefield tells Frank he should go back to Oxford and start his life over. He tells him to let Claire go just like she has let him go.

Sex and Death

Jamie and Claire decide to go away from the group to get some alone time. While they are in the middle of having sex, two deserter Red Coats come upon them. Jamie is grabbed by one holding a gun while the other tries to rape Claire. Claire uses her knife to protect herself and kills the man. Jamie then kills the one with the gun. Claire is shocked by her actions and Jamie is angry he didn’t protect her. The group decides Jamie can’t meet Horrocks alone, so they leave Claire a safe distance away in the woods.

Return to Craigh Na Dun

Mrs. Graham insists on telling Frank about the stories of Craigh Na Dun. She explains that people can travel through the rocks and that sometimes they come back. Frank refuses to believe her and leaves. As he is driving out of Inverness, he passes Craigh Na Dun and decides to go there. Frank stands in the stones and yells for Claire.

Claire is angry at what happened in the meadow and realizes she is angry with herself for giving up on her plan to return to Frank. She realizes she is close to Craigh Na Dun and runs to it. She can hear Frank calling for her and she begins to yell for him. He can hear her, but believes he is dreaming. Claire reaches the stones but before she can touch them, Red Coats grab her and bring her to Fort William.

Black Jack Randall

Claire is brought to Jack Randall. He treats Claire with contempt but congratulates her on her wedding. He is very curious why Dougal would make her a Mackenzie. Randall threatens to discover Claire’s secrets by any means. Claire uses her knowledge from Frank about his relative to throw Randall off his game, but it backfires on her and once again Randall has Claire where he wants her. Before Randall can do any real damage, Jamie appears in a window aiming a gun at Randall.
