Outlander is one on the hottest dramas on TV, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a lighter side. There are a number of comedic moments in the Outlander novels that we hope make it into episodes of season 3.

Granted, there’s lots of historical drama and romance to be had in Outlander, but the show is also really funny. Some characters have a consistently great sense of humor, others seem to just have stuff happen to them that’s funny, and aside from the characters, there are just situations that are funny in and of themselves.

People sometimes overlook the fact that one of the best qualities in the character of James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser (Sam Heughan) is that he has an incredibly great sense of humor. His style ranges from turn-of-phrase fun to dry wit. Claire (Caitriona Balfe), although she tends to be more serious, has her moments, too. Claire’s style is more about sarcasm.

Here are just a couple of our wishes for season 3. There are some mild spoilers below because of references to the novels, so avert your eyes if you are trying to stay totally spoiler-free, and definitely avoid the comments.

So how do I look?

Everyone wants to look their best, but getting an unbiased opinion is a bit of a challenge. Claire has her own moment of wanting to know if frankly she’s still got it since she’s now pushing 50. The only thing funnier than the reserved Claire asking if she’s still hot is the person she puts on the spot to ask, and his answer.

Ale pot

When Jamie and Claire reunite (this isn’t a spoiler, we wouldn’t have a show if they didn’t get back together) things aren’t exactly a-running-towards-each-other-with-open-arms classic moment. It’s more like a running-to-a-really-catastrophically-funny stumble. Key to this reunion is an encounter with an untimely placed ale pot, and we are dying to see it.

Fergus

Fergus is just so French. You can take the boy out of France, but you can’t take France out of the boy.

We get a grown up version of Fergus this year as César Domboy takes on the role of adult Fergus. What we are looking forward to is the hilarity of the lengths that this Frenchman will go to not be without his love and long-term sexual frustration.

Sex is messy

Let’s face it, we’ve all at one time or another wished that we could have had a do-over when it came to a kiss or sexual encounter. Real life romance isn’t choreographed. Do you move your head to the right…oh wait, their head is going right. I’ll go left. Wait, they’re going left, and OUCH! If you wear glasses, you know what I mean. It’s a never ending parade of hooked frames.

Jamie and Claire, the “perfect couple,” have one of these not-so-perfect romantic encounters at probably the worst moment possible. We’d really love to see this moment because it makes them more human.

Seasick

Sea sickness isn’t funny, as anyone who suffers from it can tell you. This year Jamie is going to need to hit the high seas, and he gets queasy just looking at the waves. There is a particularly funny, but effective, cure that the books incorporate thanks to the skills of Mr. Willoughby, played by newcomer Gary Young. This one might get cut, but the visual would be awesome!

Outlander airs on Starz at a new time and day of the week this year. New episodes will air on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. If your cable provider or satellite network doesn’t have Starz, you can watch Outlander via a Starz Amazon subscription for less than $10/month.

These are just a few of the things we look forward to during the first part of Outlander season 3. What funny moments are you looking forward to?
