Outlander season 3 has added another crucial actor to its already impressive roster. French actor César Domboy is slated to take on the role of adult Fergus.

As the loveable orphan who becomes Jamie and Claire’s unofficial, adopted son, Romann Berrux stole our hearts, not to mention the show, when we met him as young Fergus.

Romann Berrux will continue his role to some degree in season 3, as we discover what Jamie’s life was like during the 20 years that he was without Claire. Nonetheless, sadly, Berrux’s days are numbered.

Eventually, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will reunite. It’s not a great feat for two adult actors to age up 20 years. It’s asking the impossible for a barely 15-year-old boy to credibly play a 35-year-old.

For similar reasons, it was previously announced that David Berry will be taking over the role of Lord John Grey from Oscar Kennedy. Kennedy played a 16-year-old Lord John Grey; however, asking him to play a now mature man of 36 was not going to happen.

Starz described the more mature version of Fergus as, “Born into a brothel, Fergus has grown up into a charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing. He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily. However, Fergus’ devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan. Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging.”

César Domboy will be taking on the role of adult Fergus. Although Domboy is best known in his native France, American viewers might recognize him from The Walk, the film that dramatized high-wire artist Philippe Petit’s 1974 walk between the World Trade Center Towers where he played Jeff/Jean-François.

Fortunately for Starz, and the Outlander creative team, Domby is no stranger to period pieces having played Guy de Leval in Borgia. As de Leval, he played a complex character whose appeal ran from schemer to charmer.

Domboy’s casting comes on the heels of other new cast member announcements. Last week it was announced that John Bell and Will Johnson will be playing Young Ian Murray and Joe Abernathy.

There is no word yet as to who will be playing Marsali, a character whose life will intertwine considerably with that of Fergus.

Outlander is slated to return to Starz in 2017.

Do you give a thumbs up to Domboy in ‘Outlander’?
