With the major characters now cast, production of the new Starz original series Outlander is well under way. Just last week, showrunner Ronald D. Moore announced on Twitter that the filming for episodes 1 and 2 is complete.

Outlander tells the adventurous tale of Claire Randall, a WWII veteran combat nurse who finds herself trapped 200 years in the past. Back in 1945, Claire is happily married to historian Frank Randall. They had been separated for years during the war and decided to take a second honeymoon in Inverness, Scotland to rekindle what the war had taken from them.

However, while hunting for wildflowers around a circle of ancient standing stones, Claire unexpectedly travels back in time to 1743. Read a user-submitted review of the series!

We’ve only been given glimpses of set locations, props and costumes, but after nearly a month of filming, we are finally starting to see more of the actors on set. A couple weeks ago, Starz released their first official image of leading actor Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, an 18th century Highland warrior (above).

Filming for the television adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander began back in early October. At the Starz panel during New York Comic-Con, Moore and Gabaldon shared some concept art and information about what they have planned for the 16 episode series.

The first scenes they shot were of Claire and her life in the 20th century. Recently, photographs from location shoots surfaced showing Caitriona Balfe as Claire in her 1940s garb speaking with her husband Frank, played by Tobias Menzies. From what Moore shared at the panel, we know that Frank will be appearing in the flesh a lot more frequently than he does in the books.

A few more changes and additions were also revealed during the panel at Comic-Con, including how Claire will be introduced to the audience and that more focus will be given to the character called Black Jack. Recent casting news tells us that we will get to meet Uncle Lambert, who will be played by Prentis Hancock.

Claire’s Uncle Lamb only appears in the book series through memories on rare occasions when he comes to Claire’s mind. Uncle Lamb is one of those characters that could have easily been left out, but we love that he’ll be making an appearance in the show.

Since production began, there have been a few more casting announcements: Aislin McGuckin will play Letitia MacKenzie, Liam Carney was cast as Alec McMahon MacKenzie, Kathryn Howden will take on the role of Mrs. Baird, Tracey Wilkinson has been cast as Mrs. Graham, Grant O’Rourke will play Rupert MacKenzie, Nell Hudson has been cast as the much hated Laoghaire MacKenzie and Laura Donnelly will play Jenny Fraser Murray.
