Outlander is proving to be one of the most successful premium cable series. It’s a good thing that there will be more books on the way.

When we spoke to Outlander executive producer Ron Moore back in October 2013 at New York Comic-Con, and again in July 2014 at San Diego Comic-Con, he stated that he was intending, at least in his initial planning, to cover roughly one Outlander novel per TV season. In 2014-2015, the Outlander TV series will cover the first novel in the series, also entitled Outlander. In the second series, which was green-lit several weeks ago, the second novel, Dragonfly in Amber, will be tackled.

There are eight full-length novels in the Outlander series to date. It’s definitely good news as the TV show isn’t likely to run out of primary source material any time soon. Gabaldon as has also amassed a series of novellas that she refers to as “bulges” that further detail the story of Jamie, Claire, and those around them.

Despite the whirlwind PR circuit that Gabaldon was caught up in over the past four months or so, the author is now back at work on her next novel in the series, title TBA. Gabaldon even released a few sample lines from the work last week on her official Facebook page. She is definitely making her next book a priority stating on her Facebook page, “So now I’m home–I’m not going ANYWHERE until late October, and then doing only one event each in October, November and December–I’m slowly digging my way out of the domestic debris and wriggling my way into the mysterious mists of Book 9…”

At both New York Comic-Con and at San Diego Comic-Con, Gabaldon assured her fans that she wasn’t yet done with the series. When further pressed by a fan as to how she was going to wrap up her saga in one last novel, Gabaldon replied, “Hey, I said ‘at least one.’ ”

Unlike Game of Thrones which is rapidly running out of material written by George R. R. Martin. It’s seems likely that Gabaldon won’t face the possibility that that TV series based on her books will “catch up” to her, and bring the kind of pressure from media and fans that has plagued Martin for years.
