Outlander is heading back to the source for a season 5 episode. Diana Gabaldon, the author of the books, has revealed she penned an episode.

Outlander season 5 isn’t coming our way until February of 2020, but we’ve got even more reason to be excited about the show’s return. Diana Gabaldon, the author of the books, has revealed that she wrote the script to one of the episodes.

As Entertainment Weekly reveals, Gabaldon spoke to her part in bringing season 5 to life on Twitter. When she was asked if she had found time to do anything else other than write Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, the ninth book in her best-selling Outlander book series, she admitted that she wrote episode 11 in the forthcoming season.

Episode 5×11 will be the first she’s written since WAY back in the second season. Gabaldon penned the episode “Vengence Is Mine.”

Of course, when a fan made a comment that her episode would be the most coherent of the season, Gabaldon was quick to defend the Outlander writers’ room. Though Gabaldon may have a great deal more knowledge on the backstory and the world of Outlander, she explained that every episode — hers included — is thoroughly vetted and goes through several rewrites before it ever makes it to air.

And while we don’t yet know what to expect from the episode, Claire herself, Caitriona Balfe, spoke incredibly highly of the Outlander author’s work. She also revealed that the episode will begin filming this week.

Naturally, neither Balfe nor Gabaldon shared any info or lines from the upcoming Outlander episode. However, Gabaldon did share a line she was particularly fond of that was ultimately cut: “Voltaire never dug a privy in his life.”

So, the line doesn’t reveal anything about the episode, but we still can’t help but get excited about what is to come in season 5. After all, only good things can come when the original author herself writes a new episode! So, be sure to mark your calendars, because season 5 of Outlander premieres on Starz on February 16, 2020.
