This week’s episode of Outlander dishes out one of the most highly anticipated moments of the entire series!

Last week’s episode of Outlander ended on a harrowing note with Brianna getting raped by none other than Stephen Bonnet.

It’s a moment that was hard to stomach, but perhaps even more devastating is the opening scene of this week’s episode wherein Brianna shakily makes her way back to Lizzie and does the best she can to clean herself up.

Brianna’s young handmaid tries her best to comfort her mistress, but it’s clear Brianna isn’t ready to receive any sort of comfort. And though Lizzie attempts to suggest that Brianna rest and build up her strength after going through such a traumatic experience, Brianna is even more hellbent on reaching her parents the following day.

Her plan is to heed Uncle Ian’s advice and make her way to River Run where she hopes Aunt Jocasta may be able to help get her to Fraser’s Ridge. As much fun as it would have been to see Bree interact with yet another long lost ancestor, it’s clear that fate has other plans in store for her.

It turns out, Lizzie’s been doing some digging in town and has returned with information about her parents’ whereabouts: they’re still in town following quite an eventful night at the theater, which found Claire performing impromptu surgery on a man right in front of the Governor.

Following Lizzie’s tip, Brianna rushes off to the place Jamie was last seen, and her trauma is briefly put on hold as she lays eyes on her father for the first time.

For many fans, this is one of those big Outlander moments they’ve been waiting for and the series doesn’t disappoint in what it dishes out as far as Brianna and Jamie’s first meeting goes.

Perhaps the loveliest thing about the scene is the way Jamie’s face transforms from one of a man dubious of Brianna’s intentions, to that of a tearful father who can’t quite believe his daughter is standing in the flesh right before his eyes.

The moment gets even sweeter as Jamie gently caresses Brianna’s face and says that though he knew she was grown, he’s always pictured her as a “wee bairn” in his mind.

Our hearts can barely take how tender the moment is and it’s clear we’re not alone! Overcome with emotion, Brianna starts to cry and falls into the arms of her father. To his credit, Jamie doesn’t even flinch and instead merely hugs Brianna close and promises that everything will be all right.

The tearful first meeting is cut short when Jamie suddenly realizes that Brianna likely hasn’t met up with Claire yet, so the pair rush off to surprise her and it’s clear they definitely succeeded.

Claire’s shocked face does most of the talking in this scene, and the happy reunion between mother and daughter is punctuated by a fierce embrace.

Most importantly for Bree, she’s finally able to deliver the message she’s traveled so far to disclose. She wastes no time in sharing the news of the obituary she found in the future with Jamie and Claire.

The Frasers have spent the majority of their lives racing against the clock as they try to change history. But much like their view on what’s to come during the Revolutionary War, it seems though their game plan as far as the fire goes is to worry about it when the date gets closer.

For now, our happily reunited family set off to Fraser’s Ridge together with Lizzie in tow. And if Bree thought she was done meeting relatives, she’s sorely mistaken.

Just before they make their way back to Fraser’s Ridge, Bree is introduced to her distant cousin, Young Ian, who turns out to be a big help as far as filling in some of the blanks for Bree on their journey back to Fraser’s Ridge.

It’s Ian who tells Bree about Bonnet’s attack on her family when they first got to North Carolina. Bree’s cousin also mentions that Jamie in particular can’t ever forgive himself for helping Bonnet escape the law.

Though Bree doesn’t utter a word about what happened to her just before she met up with her parents, it’s clear she’s put two and two together and made the connection between the man who attacked the raft and the man who raped her.

This week’s episode of Outlander dishes out one final family introduction when the group makes their grand return to Fraser’s Ridge. It turns out Murtagh as been keeping an eye on the place in Jamie and Claire’s absence.

Jamie wastes no time in having a proud father moment as he introduces Brianna and his godfather to each other.

Keeping Murtagh alive in deviation from the books is honestly worth it if only for moments like this!

One of the ways season 4 vastly differs from the seasons that have come before it is in the pacing. Jamie and Claire have spent so much of their lives racing against the clock that there’s really been no time for them to enjoy the quiet joys of domesticity.

It’s different in North Carolina, though — especially with their decision to worry about the impending war when it’s closer to coming to fruition.

Though it’s not as exciting as running from red coats or squaring off against villains, it’s kind of been nice to watch them work away at Fraser’s Ridge, and it’s even nicer to see Brianna settle into the domestic life right alongside her parents.

Of course, Brianna’s got a lot weighing her down, and it doesn’t take long for both Jamie and Claire to notice.

First up, thee’s the subject of Roger.

Though Roger and Bree were handfast shortly after their tearful reunion in Wilmington, once again the couple left on bad terms. This time, they found themselves fighting over the fact that Bree realized Roger had known Jamie and Claire would die in a fire and decided to keep the information from Bree.

It’s the fight that caused Bree to storm off back to the tavern where she then had her unlucky encounter with Bonnet.

Bree decides against telling anyone about her rape for now, but she does talk with Claire about Roger and about how she tried to find him the next morning but he’d already set sail.

Jamie and Claire come to the conclusion that Brianna is suffering from a badly broken heart, none the wiser of the fact that that’s not the only thing weighing down on her.

Poor Bree gets a brief reprieve from the misery when Jamie wakes her at dawn and invites her to go hunting with him. The pair may have set off with rifles slung over their shoulders, but it turns out Jamie’s got his heart set on hunting much smaller game.

As Bree and Jamie make their way through the wood, Jamie reveals they’ll be hunting bees today. Similar to a few episodes back where Jamie set off into the woods with Willie, he welcomes the opportunity to pass down his knowledge of hunting to his offspring.

The scene makes for a lovely father-daughter bonding moment, and it also allows Jamie to get a few big things off his chest.

For one, he confesses to Bree that he’s incredibly thankful to Frank for raising her as his own when he could not. He also makes no secret of the fact that he’d like Bree to stay and hopes if she chooses to do so, she’ll be happy there in Fraser’s Ridge with Jamie and Claire.

The pair also settle on what Bree should call him going forward with Jamie telling her she can call him “Da.”

“Is that Gaelic?” Bree asks.

“No,” says Jamie. “It’s only simple.”

Though Bree was pretty quick to warm up to Jamie from the get-go, it’s clear that all day hunting trip did the pair a load of good as far as progressing their relationship as father and daughter — something that’s incredibly apparent to Claire specifically later that night as the trio share a bit of honeycomb together.

Speaking of Claire, mother’s instinct tells her something’s still not quite right with her daughter and things finally come to a head when the pair find themselves picking herbs on afternoon.

“How far along are you?” Claire asks after a particularly emotional outburst from Bree.

It’s then that Bree confesses she’s about two months pregnant. She also drops another huge bombshell: the baby might not be Roger’s. It doesn’t take long for Bree to finally confess to Claire what happened to her that night at the tavern.

Horrified, Claire clutches Bree to her chest and does her best to soothe her as they both cry.

This week’s Outlander delivers one more blow before wrapping up — this time at Roger’s expense.

Roger might have been hoping to part ways with Bonnet in Wilmington, but it seems as though he didn’t read the proverbial fine print when he signed on to be a member of his crew. Bonnet forces him to finish the run, promising Roger can be free of his crew duties after the ship docks in Philadelphia.

Once they dock in Philadelphia, it seems as though Roger might be thinking of going straight back to Scotland to pass through the stones again — especially after he asks if he might have one of Bonnet’s small gems instead of the pay that was promised to him for his work.

Bonnet agrees but it soon becomes clear that Roger has other plans. He voyages back to North Carolina and makes his way to Fraser’s Ridge. It seems as though there might be a another happy reunion in store for Roger and Bree, but there’s yet another road block in their way.

This time, it comes in the form of Lizzie, who spots Roger while working the land with Young Ian. Lizzie is well aware that Brianna had been violated back in Wilmington and because she’d noticed the heated exchange Roger and Bree had when they first met up in the tavern, she mistakes Roger to be the man who raped her mistress.

With Ian’s help, they set off to find Jamie and once they do, Lizzie tells him of what she believes to be true: that Roger was the one who raped Bree.

Taking matters into his own hands, Jamie sets out to avenge his daughter’s honor, nearly killing Roger with his bare hands before Roger barely has time to utter a word.

Roger survives by the skin of his teeth but only because Jamie notices some travelers passing through on a wagon. Instead, he tasks Young Ian with getting rid of Roger, who’s not dead but merely knocked out.

Unfortunately, it looks as though we’ll have to wait until next week to find out what happens to Roger! The episode fades to black shortly after Jamie gives Young Ian the marching orders.
