When Maslany lost the Emmy nomination to Robin Wright last year, the Internet was abuzz. There’s no doubt that both actresses, and all of the actresses nominated, deserved the nomination, but with the amount of work that goes into Maslany’s portrayal of her astounding nine characters, it’s clear that Maslany got the short end of the stick.
If nominated for best actress, Tatiana Maslany has the potential of being the first woman to win a best actress award for a sci-fi television show since 1997 when Gillian Anderson won for The X-Files. And if nominated for best drama, Orphan Black could be the first sci-fi show to ever win an Emmy in the category, not counting Lost’s win from 2005 because it barely fits the sci-fi genre on television.
