Orphan Black season 2, episode 8 “Variable and Full of Perturbation” aired tonight and brought us a whole new set of complications. Check out our recap of the episode and let us know what you thought!

Tony: The new clone

The episode starts with two criminal-looking types getting out of a van, one of them injured and shot. It’s not looking good, and he tells his partner that he needs to find Beth Childs because he has a message for her. His partner is curious about who Beth Childs is, and the camera shows us that it’s another clone! A transgender Tatiana Maslany!

The clone goes to meet Art because he had his number, and it’s revealed that his name is Tony. Art takes him to Felix’s place, where Felix stays with Tony while Art goes to check his story. Tony says that Beth told him they might be related, and now his friend has a message for her but she’s dead. He wants to know what’s going on, but Felix doesn’t want to tell him until Art comes back.

When Art is gone, Tony start flirting with Felix as Felix is trying to get information out of him. When Art gets back, he says that Tony was born as Antoinette Zwickey, confirms that the assailants that killed his partners are unknown, and Tony’s partner was in contact with Beth a lot. Art says that whoever shot his partner will come looking for Tony next.

Felix calls Sarah, and tells her about the clone. Tony shows up, and then asks him about the painting of Sarah he found in Felix’s place, just after kissing Felix – who actually kisses back.

Just when Tony is about to leave because Felix won’t share anything, Sarah shows up and explains the whole clone thing to him. After warming up to her, Tony explains that Sammy (his partner) was ex-military so he got a lot of his jobs from his old army contacts. The message was “Tell Beth, keep the faith. Paul is like me, he’s on it. He’s a ghost.”

Duncan has the answers.

At Mrs. S’s place, Sarah and Mrs. S. are keeping Kira safe at her house while they wait for Rachel to decide what she’s going to do. Felix gets a call from Art, and goes to see what’s up.

Delphine shows up, and tells Sarah and Mrs. S that Rachel sent her. Rachel has a proposal: Since Leekie is dead, the key to a gene therapy cure lies in Ethan’s synthetic sequences. So he needs to go to the DYAD, but Sarah doesn’t want that to happen. However, Mrs. S. says that they will consider their proposal.

Duncan says that he can definitely cure Cosima, so they take him to the DYAD. Before they leave, Duncan is reading Dr. Moreau to Kira, and gives her the book.

At the end of the episode, Kira wakes up and starts to look at the book and Ethan has written a bunch of scientific material on the inside that she starts reading up on.

A Promise Kept

Delphine goes to visit Cosima at her lab, but she doesn’t want her there. Cosima goes back to her lab with Kira’s tooth and works with Scott to get the stem cells from it when he mentions a more effective treatment would be the bone marrow.

Delphine visits Rachel, and Rachel tells her that she is the new director since Leekie had a heart attack. Delphine has to report to Rachel, and tells her that they have a line of communication with Sarah now. She tells Delphine about Ethan and how he has all the information on the original genome.

At night, Cosima finds Scott and his friends playing a tabletop strategy game, and she joins them. She starts coughing as she gets really into the game, and Delphine shows up telling her she thinks someone killed Leekie. She tells Cosima that Duncan has the key to an actual cure, so Cosima asks Scott’s friends to leave and tells Delphine she’s going to get her completely baked.

As they get baked, Delphine tells Cosima that she loves her. That’s why she didn’t tell Cosima the stem cells were Kira, because she’s trying to save her.

Later in the episode, Rachel is on the phone with someone who tells her Paul had completely disappeared with no digital trace, when Ethan shows up and she makes sure that he knows their relationship should be strictly professional. In their meeting, Duncan says that the clones are barren by design and Sarah is a failure, not a success. This causes Rachel to be extremely upset.

She has Ethan meet Cosima so they could start working together, and when they meet Cosima starts coughing up blood and collapses on the floor, seizing.

Murderer Bonding Time

Alison comes home to find Donnie drunk and naked in bed, the day she got back from rehab. That night, he starts packing and says they’re going to leave, but they get into an argument and end up talking all night about what Donnie has done, and they exchange stories about their escapades.

Donnie shows Alison Leekie’s body, which he put in the trunk (poorly wrapped), and tells Alison he used her gun, to which she replied to by hitting him repeatedly.
