On his promotional tour for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Orlando Bloom has revealed that Pirates of the Caribbean 5 could end up being a reboot focusing on the relationship between him and his son.

While speaking with IGN, Legolas actor Orlando Bloom says, “I’m not entirely sure that [I’ll be back] just yet, but there are talks. Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son. I’m of course Davy Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly.”

It’s definitely interesting that Bloom could be involved in Pirates 5, as his character hasn’t been involved since the third film where he became the captain of Davy Jones’ ship to save his life. With many of the same characters involved, we’re not sure how it’s a reboot per se, but it could look to refocus the story in some way.

The fifth Pirates film is titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, and while that doesn’t give us too much of an idea of what the film will be about, there have been rumors that Javier Bardem, who plays the film’s villain, Captain Brand, will be going after Captain Jack Sparrow for the death of his brother.

In related news, sources recently told Variety that Disney is currently looking to screen test a few actresses over the next week for the female lead of Pirates 5. Some actresses on the list include Lucy Boynton, Gabriella Wilde, Jenna Thiam, Kaya Scodelario and Alexandra Dowling. This is supposedly a key role in the film, and while it doesn’t line up with the fact that the film will focus on Orlando Bloom and his character’s son, we have to take Bloom’s word over unnamed sources.

While Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (the last film) took in over $1 billion worldwide, the general consensus was that the film wasn’t that great. It added a lot of new characters to the film, and essentially put the weight of the film on Depp’s shoulders. With Orlando back, we imagine it could potentially be a more interesting film.
