My mother recently informed me that my younger brother has started reading The Hunger Games. He’s nearly 11 years old (more than a year away from Reaping age), and I’m 21.

Having read the books (and many others), my parents sort of use me to make judgement calls on the suitability of books he reads and movies he watches.

However, I find myself a bit lost on this particular call. His favorite books are anything written by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson), which I admit I have not read. But I do see a stark contrast in the target age group of those books and the target age group of The Hunger Games.

So I put it to the Hypable community. What do you think? Is there a minimum age limit on The Hunger Games? How do you feel about young kids reading these books? Should parents or older relatives/ teachers have conversations with these kids about the themes they’re encountering?
