At this point, I am under the impression that at least a few of the songs included on The Hunger Games soundtrack have to be included in the film. What other movies have a complete soundtrack but then only include a score within the actual film? Although I realize I am in the minority by saying that, I thought using songs within the Twilight movies added depth and gave the films a different tone. And for this reason I do not think that a soundtrack playing during The Hunger Games will destroy the movie.

I can’t help but watch the most recently released TV spot over and over again. The fact that Taylor Swift and the Civil War’s ‘Safe and Sound’ plays underneath adds so much emotion to the spot that its predecessors definitely did not have. This spot is by far the best, if not just for that reason alone. The fact that the soundtrack appears to be composed of PRIMARILY indie/folk rock artists, I have no reason to believe that the soundtrack will be made up of anything other than songs that will add an eerie and ominous feel to the film. Although it’s too early to tell, I am remaining optimistic.

In addition, I thought this piece of news was very interesting: “Even more excitingly, Butler described the group’s other contribution to the score, “Horn of Plenty,” as kind of an anthem for the Capitol– the Capitol’s idea of itself, basically.” They wrote the song and the film’s composer James Newton Howard also incorporated it into the score, which means the entire sound of The Hunger Games will have a little bit of The Arcade Fire’s flair.” In addition, Glen Hansard has tweeted about when his two song contributions will play within the movie. This, in my opinion, confirms it all. Mockingjay.net reports: Hansard says that “Take the Heartland will play when the tributes are first brought up into the arena, and that Come Away to the Water (which does not appear on the official list of songs for the soundtrack) will play as Cato waits for Peeta and Katniss, and their final showdown.

I think it is far too early for Hunger Games fans to be worried about what impact a soundtrack might have on the film. In my opinion, this will make the film feel invigorating and youthful. Fans should be nothing but joyous over this news, as it should make the movie all the more better!
