One Direction took over the Today Show stage in promotion of their sophomore album Take Me Home (out now!) and announced their first 3D movie.

Helmed by Supersize Me director Morgan Spurlock, the 3D movie – in the vein of Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never and Katy Perry’s Part of Me – will debut for Labor Day weekend 2013 on Aug. 30. Spurlock, Simon Cowell, Ben Winston and Adam Milano will produce.

“This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band,” Spurlock said in a statement. “To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”

Watch as Niall Horan leads into performances of “Live While We’re Young,” “Little Things” and “What Makes You Beautiful” with the announcement of the band’s first movie to a crowd of 15,000 at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza.
