Brace yourselves, One Direction fans: It looks as though there might be some truth to the recent rumors surrounding a 1D reunion!

It’s been five long years since One Direction opted to go on a hiatus, but it looks as though the boys might be ready to come together to work on something special for the band’s upcoming 10-year anniversary.

Rumors of a 1D reunion first started swirling just last week when former Directioner Liam Payne told The Sun that the boys have been in touch and trying to connect via FaceTime to talk about reuniting.

At the time, the British publication revealed that Payne had all but confirmed a One Direction reunion was currently in the works — albeit one that likely wouldn’t involve former member Zayn Malik, who was the first to officially leave the band.

“At the moment, I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say,” Payne told the outlet. “There’s a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around. But more than anything it’s just been a real good time for us to connect together again.”

As exciting as it is to hear that Payne had reportedly confirmed that something was in the works at the time, there’s no denying that some might have been weary about whether or not there were any truths to the rumors. Especially given that The Sun is more or less considered a tabloid.

Now, it’s looking as though the band is definitely working on something — which is bound to be cause for excitement for fans who’ve been holding out hope these past five years.

In a recent Instagram Live chat with Swedish DJ Alesso (whom he collaborated with on “Midnight”), Payne once again alluded to the fact that there’s definitely been some talk going on behind closed doors!

During the live show, which went down between the pop star and the DJ on Sunday (April 19), Payne revealed that he’d spoken to fellow Directioner Niall Horan most recently, and that he, Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson had all been “trying to arrange the first group FaceTime.”

In a dig at former One Direction member Zayn Malik, Payne also joked that perhaps Alesso could come and fill in as the fifth member of the band.

“I can’t say too much,” said Payne according to Canadian publication, The Loop. “Louis [Tomlinson] told me off for revealing a bit about our plans the other day. So I had a group telling off on the group chat.”

Liam Payne may have not been able to spill any more details, but it’s safe to say we’re certainly intrigued about what One Direction might be planning to mark the band’s 10-year anniversary.

Guess we’ll just have to wait to see what comes of the discussions going on behind the scenes between the boys!
