In some surprising news, the hugely popular star of One Direction, Harry Styles, has joined the cast of director Chris Nolan’s new WWII movie Dunkirk.

Deadline reports that Harry Styles has officially been cast in a major role in director Christopher Nolan’s new World War II movie. Nolan is best known for his Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale, but his latest films have included Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014).

It’s definitely interesting to see that the incredibly well-respected director would choose singer Harry Styles as one of the central roles of his upcoming film, but Nolan is reportedly looking to hire some new acting talent.

The title of the film is Dunkirk, and it’ll be taking place during World War II, and more specifically about the evacuation of Dunkirk which took place during 1940. Dunkirk’s evacuation was a military operation, called Operation Dynamo, which saved more than 300,000 soldiers who were trapped by the German military during WWII.

The movie will feature some well-known actors in the cast as well, including Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance. The report suggests that the goal is for the rest of the cast to be made up of “largely unknown actors.”

The film will be shot in 65MM IMAX, which has become a signature of Chris Nolan’s films, and with the increasingly talented ensemble cast and unique story it seems like a film which could be something to look forward to next year.

Dunkirk will be released in U.S. theaters on July 21, 2017.
