Jane Espenson has revealed some details about an upcoming Rumpelstiltskin-centric episode she wrote, and given some hints as to how his deal with Emma will play out.

Speaking to E! Online, Espenson reveals that episode 1×08, which she has written, will shed more light on Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle). The episode will provide, “Some crucial facts about where Rumpel comes from.” As to whether he is as evil as he seems:

He’s a wild card. His ulterior motives are still always very complicated.

She also talks about the deal Mr. Gold made with Emma:

He’s going to hold onto that for a while. He’s going to make sure that’s paid off when he can get the maximum bang.
