Once Upon a Time stars Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue discuss the highly anticipated Hook and Emma first date in this week’s episode!

You have been patient, Captain Swan fans. You read the fan fictions. Perhaps you even wrote the fan fictions. You poured over the final scene between Hook and Emma from last week’s episode. You watched the promo a hundred times and stared at the gif for even longer. (You know the one we’re talking about.)

(Yes, that one.)

The date will happen without snow monsters, icy prisons, or even the threat of rain. However, do not expect the two to have an evening free of complications.

In the promo for this week, Hook pays Rumple a visit and from three seasons worth of experience we can expect that a deal with the Dark One comes with a price. Even Robert Carlyle chimes in on Hook’s poor decision saying, “it was a really, really stupid thing for [Hook] to do. That comes back to bite him, really badly.”

Consequences aside, Hook’s intentions behind the recovery of his hand are positively swoon-worthy. O’Donoghue comments, “[Hook’s] reason for doing it is so he can hold Emma with both hands, if he needs to, on the date…”

With both hands free, O’Donoghue goes on to explain that while he makes the deal for his hand with Emma in mind for, let’s say hugging and handing roses to, his new appendage serves a different purpose during the date that takes the pirate by surprise.

“The only problem is that they come across Will Scarlet, who knocks a drink over Emma, so Hook grabs him — and startles himself a bit [in doing so]… He is really trying to suppress being a 200-year-old pirate [who] hasn’t really had to live by the rules.”

Though chivalry is a new guise for Killian, hopefully his desire for good form resurfaces to keep his temper in check. Speaking of new guise, do not think that we are going anywhere without mentioning Hook’s new clothes. They may be new but the attachment to leather runs deep in Killian’s bones. Morrison comments on his efforts saying, “He figures out how to dress like a real person. A leathery, real person.” Captain Hand really pulls out all the stops to take Emma on the date she deserves. After all, it took him this long to get a proper date with the lady!

As for Emma’s efforts to shed her own leather attachment, David and Mary Margaret see their daughter off in a beautiful dress and prepare to wait up until she returns home. Josh Dallas remarks, “David doesn’t want to know, like, everything, but he waits up… [Mary Margaret] just wants Emma to be happy, and ultimately that’s what [David] wants for her, too.”

As for one change Hook refuses to make, “[David]‘ll never be OK with the guyliner, but he’ll find a way to be OK with it, as long as Emma’s happy.” Stay strong, Dad.
