Our returning Once Upon a Time cast members are taking on new roles! Don’t worry, Mr. Gold still appears to be the worst.

The massive overhaul of Once Upon a Time‘s season 7 story arc is almost ready for consumption. Ahead of the premiere in October, the cast and EPs made another pit stop, this time at the Television Critics’ Association summer press junket.

While we know their jobs, names and other signature features are still under wraps. Hook, as seen in the trailer, will play a cop. Regina ditches pant suits for rockin’ denim as a bar owner. While Gold, well, we don’t actually know what Gold is up to in Hyperion Heights. But since Robert Carlyle is tailor made for the villain, all bets are on a dark, twisted character.

Who will Hook, Regina, and Gold play next?

A few more descriptive features were added during the session.

Hook: O’Donoghue offers an update on his character noting that this version of Hook is different than all the others. “I describe that there’s a sense of loss there in the guy and he just doesn’t know what it is that’s missing. He’s striving in some way to find who he is still, yet the Hook that we meet is trying to be the best uniform cop that he can be and do the right thing, but as is the case on Once Upon a Time, it’s more complicated than that,” O’Donoghue notes.

Regina: Henry and his mom will not recognize or know each other when we first meet them in Hyperion Heights. “Regina has not seen this grown man ever before. So she’s taken back by that and is finding their relationship now that he’s no longer this little boy,” says Parrilla.

Gold: No matter where he goes, he just can’t mind his own business! “He’s involved in many of the goings on in this neighborhood in Seattle. We don’t want to say too much of the specifics of it, but it’s a lot of fun…” says Horowtiz.

The worlds: While the Enchanted Forest will contain magic, Seattle is very much planted in reality. No magic clocks, or crazy storm clouds roll in. I wonder if Henry and Meredith Grey get their coffee at the same place in the morning?

The new curse: The secrets of the new season will reveal themselves over time. As you get to know the “new” characters, answers will slowly pour in from flashbacks. Yes, this includes what happens to Hook and Emma (Episode 2) and Rumpel and Belle (Episode 4). “When you’re cursed, you can’t get rid of all of you, so things percolate up and there are hints and remnants of who they once were, mixed with who they are now and that becomes part of the journey for all of them,” Horowitz says.

Let’s break these down, shall we?

First up, Henry and Hook in the Enchanted Forest.

Umm… Sorry, David, but a new bromance between father and son is blossoming! Eve without dialogue, these two are already the must see bros of the fall.

Something is clearly not right with the Captain here. He is in his more modern garb. Wonder what that is all about?

Do you think they know any campfire songs?

He’s so grown up. And sad. And mildly attractive. Is it okay to be attracted to Henry? Anyway, why is he so sad? Maybe because Hook left him alone at the fire.

Next up, Regina’s new gig.

If there is anyone behind a bar who I would want advice from after I found out my long lost daughter is in town with a magical book, it’s this woman right here. Loving everything about this look.

New curse, same drama. Cinderella makes her way into the bar!

And last, but not least, here’s Lucy!

Once Upon a Time season 7 premieres Friday, October 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
