Once Upon a Time may soon debut the show’s first LGBTQ character, Hypable has learned.

Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz revealed the tidbit today during a OUAT season 5 Q&A in Los Angeles which Hypable attended.

The news came when the duo were asked by a member of the press about a relationship between Aurora (Sarah Bolger) and Mulan (Jamie Chung). As fans will remember, season 4 offered a slight hint of a relationship between the two beloved Disney characters.

“I would say that we know [the LBGTQ] community are big supporters of the show and we’d love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that,” said Kitsis on Friday.

Added Horowitz, “We want the show to reflect the world as it is now. Whether that’s going to be with any particular character we’re not going to say, and it’s something we want to do this year. It’s something we think is very important to do on the show, because this is the world we live in.”

No specific character details were offered, so let the speculating begin! This LGBTQ character (or characters?) could be a returning face — Kitsis and Horowitz didn’t tell us one way or the other.
