Across the land let it be known that Liam Garrigan took the sword from the stone! Once Upon a Time has found its King Arthur.

Just before Once Upon a Time heads back to San Diego Comic Con, the casting news for season 5 begins to roll in! ICYMI: Once Upon a Time season 5 casting call: Who we want to see play Merlin, Arthur, and Guinevere

Sure, our clever rhyme at the beginning does refer to one of King Arthur’s legends, that he took the sword Excalibur from the stone, but nothing has been confirmed about which path Once Upon a Time creators are leaning towards.

Besides they already put their twist on that story! Even if it did turn out to be fake…

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz said to EW, “As we do on Once Upon a Time, we’re doing our own twist on Camelot, on Arthur’s background and on his relationships with Merlin, Guinevere and Lancelot.”

We’re still confident that Guinevere and Arthur’s romance and theirs ties with Lancelot are in the cards for this season. Unfortunately, Lancelot died in season 2, long before a trip to Camelot was written into the story. But do not fear, Lancelot is confirmed to come back to Once‘s fifth season. It is unclear whether or not it will be in flashback form.

Just as the casting directors are looking for their Merlin, the residents of Storybrooke will be on the hunt for him as well when Once Upon a Time returns. The Sorcerer is the only person who can destroy the Dark One. Now that Emma’s name is written across the dagger, [Insert Henry’s Operation Name Here] will focus on finding the Sorcerer, whose identity was revealed in the final minutes of season 4, as Merlin.

Once Upon a Time returns Sunday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET to ABC.
