The entire Brave clan is heading to Once Upon a Time as Merida’s parents join season 5! Meet King Fergus and Queen Elinor.
Once Upon a Time season 5 extends an invitation to the entire Brave world as Merida’s parents gear up for their debut. Announced today over at THR, Caroline Morahan and Glenn Keogh will join the story as Queen Elinor and King Fergus. Expect to meet the King and Queen in the two-hour November 15 episodes, “Birth” and “The Bear King.” The episodes will not only feature Merida’s story, but contain the highly anticipated return of Red and Mulan!

The appearance of King Fergus will certainly be a flashback since we learned in the season 5 premiere that Merida’s father has passed away. Queen Elinor, however, may very well be alive and a key component to Merida’s story.
Once Upon a Time is not shying away from using the Brave universe this season. Though Merida was off screen for a few episodes, her story is gearing up to become a major part of season 5A. In next week’s episode, “The Bear and the Bow,” we will learn more about the “usurping clans of DunBroch” who have captured her brothers and their plans for her kingdom.

But Merida cannot make any progress on her journey so long as Emma holds her heart.
