The Queens of Darkness are not the only villains making a stir in Storybrooke this season. Once Upon a Time‘s wicked witch is set to return!
The structure of Once Upon a Time‘s storytelling means that any character can return as the show goes on! TV Line reports today that Rebecca Mader was seen on set filming flashbacks for the upcoming spring season of the show.
At the close of season 3, Zelena turned to dust at the hand of her former teacher, Rumplestiltskin. After exacting revenge for Neal’s death, Zelena’s ashes drifted off to the barn where they helped open up a portal to the past.

But what information could Zelena hold for the second arc of season 4? With Rumple and Regina racing to find the author of the storybook, perhaps a conversation from the past will spark a lead for Rumple or Regina to get ahead. After all, Zelena’s entire purpose for arriving in Storybrooke was to change her own destiny by changing the past. She must know a thing or two!

At least Once Upon a Time‘s most wicked opponent will not be sticking around to help the Queens of Darkness! Before the Queens can start their battle for a happy ending, they must first get to Storybrooke. At the close of the winter finale, Rumple and Ursula met up in New York with two more stops to make before the darkness can approach the limits of Storybrooke.
