Even though Once Upon a Time season 4, episode 8 was two hours long, a touching scene between Elsa and Mary Margaret still ended up on the cutting room floor.

Did you like last night’s two-hour Once Upon a Time episode? In season 4, episode 8, “Smash the Mirror,” Emma (Jennifer Morrison) battled with the decision about whether or not to get rid of her magic, while unbeknownst to her, Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) was planning to betray her.

Luckily Elsa (Georgina Haig) arrived just in time to stop Emma from surrendering herself to the hat, telling her to love herself and embrace her powers.

In this deleted scene from last night’s episode, Elsa talks to Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) about Emma’s decision, and wonders what she would have done in the same situation:

In the clip, Elsa shows Mary Margaret her protective gloves, and admits that when she was growing up, she wanted more than anything for her powers to disappear.

“Or at least I thought I did,” she muses. “Maybe that was just my parents talking.”

Mary Margaret asks Elsa what she’d tell Emma to do, and Elsa has an interesting answer: “The terrible thing is that, if I was with her right now, I don’t know if I’d stop her… or join her.”

Obviously we know that Elsa ended up stopping Emma, after overhearing Mary Margaret and David (Josh Dallas) talking about wanting Emma to give up her magic.

While we’re glad that Emma is learning to embrace herself, obviously her act of self-love has played right into the Snow Queen (Elizabeth Mitchell)’s hands.

Still, if we’re grading on a curve, Ingrid’s endgame (getting a family) is a bit more sympathetic than Rumple’s. What is Rumple’s endgame, anyway? World domination? We can’t wait to find out.

Should this scene have been left in ‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4, episode 8?
