Once Upon a Time season 4, episode 7, “The Snow Queen,” just aired on ABC. Find out what Ingrid has up her sleeve for Storybrooke in our recap!

We sisters three: In Arendelle of old, Ingrid, Gerda, and Helga face a man who wants to snatch the princesses. Ingrid discovers her icy powers as she lurches at the man, accidentally freezing a tree branch that crushes him. Vowing never to cast Ingrid out or be apart, each sister takes a ribbon from the wrecked kite.

Years pass at at their father’s 70th birthday bash, Helga prepares to introduce her desired partner, Frozen‘s savviest dancer, the Duke of Weselton!

Ingrid sneaks out to gaze upon the scene, but flurries cloud her vision.

In the family: Regina’s vault must be lacking a blood magic lock, since Robin is able to waltz in and proclaim his dilemma yet again. Regina states once more that he must put her aside and fall back in love with Marian, Robin stifles another proclamation of love, instead saying that he does not know what he should do.

One place is still safe for Regina to gaze at Robin, and that is from above the storybook. But as she looks upon Robin and Marian, Henry interrupts looking dashing in a suit and tie. He is headed to complete his part of Operation Mongoose, survey Gold’s shop for clues. This week he does get access to a magical potion, furniture polish. Wax on, wax off, Henry!

Oh, baby: Mary Margaret participates in Cinderella’s Mommy and Me class for the mothers of Storybrooke. Being sure Neal has everything in the world, while also assuring Emma that he is not a replacement for her is a rough battle. On the one hand, Neal will give Mary Margaret all of her firsts, but on the other, she cannot talk about Neal without every comment hurting her daughter in some way. As Emma goes to leave, Mary Margaret is hesitant to pass along Neal to Emma’s care when the bottle she is holding starts boiling at her touch.

An Elvish spell that Belle translated works its magic when Emma tries is out in a true crisis against the Snow Queen. In the clock tower, Ingrid set up the mirror, but Belle’s astute observation points out that the mirror is a fake for it does not show their darker selves.

Ingrid has a way of getting underneath everyone’s skin in a most effective way. For Emma, however, it is easier than she anticipated. Using the fake mirror as a ruse to capture Emma in the station, Ingrid begins to calmly respond to her beat for beat. Emma knows her plan? Okay. Emma understands why she wants her and Elsa? Excellent. Now what’s left to discuss?

The answer is the feeling of watching your family cringe in fear at the sight of your powers. Emma is confident that Mary Margaret and David, despite their past mistakes, are not afraid of her powers. But after Ingrid plays her hand, Emma becomes agitated enough to cause her powers to spark on their own. With one last nudge, Emma is officially out of control, breaking a giant hole in the station (now is a good time for an additional cell room!) and hurting David by accident. Mary Margaret yells at Emma in a moment of fear, leaving Emma to see exactly what Ingrid wanted.

When Emma is nowhere to be found, Mary Margaret points out that Ingrid’s plan may involve a mirror that will turn them against one another, but she certainly made great strides without it.

Merrily we roll: Robin takes his angst out on a dart board, but a live human target walks in just in time to save Granny’s wall. Will Scarlett attempts to reconcile for his past actions to win his beloved, stealing from Maleficent, shown in an episode of Wonderland, but Robin only wants to talk of his woes in womenville.

Will and Robin stroll down memory lane, filling in how Marian and Robin met over an act of thievery that led to her abandoning her life to follow the good she saw in her thief. From that day on, Robin never stole from just any old person again. Marian told Will one night, only when you see the good in someone you don’t give up on them. Rather you find a way to fight for it everyday. If you want to ruin your life for someone, how could it not be worth it?

Well, in Robin’s case, that narrative can apply to two different women. But he chooses the one who is still alive and has her heart in tact. After a long enough break in their courtship, Robin waltzes into her vault (again) and kisses Regina!

Stripping down: Ingrid tried to leave her home once, but her sisters declarations of love, plus a trip to see a sorcerer in Mist Haven gave her hope. In exchange for their ribbons, Rumpelstiltskin agrees to offer Ingrid an urn that will contain her magic if things become too chilly and gloves to take the edge off for all other times.

Now free to be out in the open, Ingrid runs into the Duke of Weselton who turns out to be an extreme creep. He tries to force himself on the sister, but Helga sees right through his lie that Ingrid is responsible for the advances. The Duke does not know when to stop talking and eventually Ingrid becomes overwhelmed and releases her icy blast, only to hit, and kill, her sister. Gerda, no matter how much love exists between them cannot look past her sister’s deed and traps her in the urn. She then ventures off to see Grand Pabbie and enacts the spell to erase the memories of the town.

What all villains want: Ingrid heads to Gold’s shop ready to strike a deal. At the time of her first trade, Ingrid did not realize the power of the ribbons, filled with the strongest love of all. But now she wants them back and is willing to trade a bit of knowledge she learned when the hat was in her possession.

For Rumpelstiltskin, Storybrooke is a small pin prick on the map of the people he could control once he achieves the mastery of his dagger. If he is willing to leave Storybrooke to her, he can have what every villain wants, everything. She whispers the final piece of his puzzle to him and he replies that he will do it with great pleasure.

Does anyone else have whiplash from Rumpelstiltskin’s character? Good! Bad! Grandpa of the year! Sacrifice the family!
