The line between heroes and villains is becoming a bit trickier to find. We draw our own line in our Once Upon a Time season 4, episode 15 recap.

Sorority sisters, of φΟΔ, (Queens of Darkness) Storybrooke chapter, initiate their newest member Regina Mills. With a shot, a hazing that involves playing chicken with a moving train, and a kidnapping, Regina passes each test to prove her loyalty to the sisterhood on tonight’s Once Upon a Time season 4, episode 15, “Enter the Dragon.”

In the past, Regina’s training is not producing results fast enough for her liking. Instead of watching her achievements line the walls of the barn, Regina watches as Snow continues to thrive. Rumpel encourages his student to take her time and patience will pay off in the long run. After all, what does revenge even mean to her? Death? Banishment? Turning her ribbons into frogs? Life on the greener side of the land may give off the illusion of glamour, but behind the walls of Maleficent’s fortress is a woman who let her revenge get the best of her.

Henry continues his search into the missing pages that August kept in his backpack, but even a magnifying glass cannot build a bridge to the door’s location. There is another way to get answers.

Regina’s field trip in the Enchanted Forest to Maleficent’s house plays out like a familiar movie where an innocent fan meets their idol and is greeted with a washed up rock star who hasn’t seen a mirror since crimping went out of style. Without the spark in her life, Maleficent turns to drugs, well, sea water and sleeping curses to take the edge off the black void she stares down every night. Regina puts on her best Snow White mask and gives an inspiring speech about taking back the fire and remembering who she truly is.

Her persistence remains, but the doe-eyed Regina fades into the background when she proposes that Maleficent stop her pouting, put on her horns, and head out to ruin Aurora’s wedding. If Maleficent cannot get her happy ending with brute force and the power to turn into a dragon, then what hope is there for an amateur sorceress who can only shoot fireballs? King Stephan shows up to put a damper on the burning man party and it turns out that the dragon lady isn’t so scary when she cannot take on the form of her counterpart. Regina is not out for the count and uses her amateur skills to break free and give Maleficent the spark to unleash her dragon.

With Stephan thrown off his guard, Maleficent approaches the very much awake beauty and pricks her finger with a needle. Sometimes revenge is best served on a bed of pillows and drawn out over 100 years. Regina returns to her teacher with a new found appreciation for patiently waiting one’s turn for greatness.

A bit rusty, but certainly not soft, Regina surveys the damage of her wild initiation night and debriefs Mary Margaret and David next to a burning cop car. While she fills in her hero contacts about the dark magic her new friends are hiding, the other hungover trio heads back to Rumpel’s cabin to propose an idea — keep Regina in the loop. Regina is nothing but powerful as a woman scorned, so to have her back in the fold with another broken heart may not be the worst idea. And war is coming, as soon as Rumpel fires the first and very powerful shot.

Regina, now a junior member of the Queens of Darkness, receives her first task to get them one step closer to the Author. Patience, especially with children, is still something Regina is working on. So when Maleficent suggests kidnapping Pinocchio for further questioning, Regina contemplates the repercussions of going back on her apology. Emma decides this is one step too far and announces in their hero booster club meeting that it is her duty as a member of Operation Mongoose to stay by Regina’s side. Seriously, is anyone besides Emma actually paying attention to the risks involved here?

Unfortunately, Killian and Will are not ready to hang out over a few pints in Granny’s anytime soon, but Will and Belle are another story. Hook interrupts the lovebirds’ cake date and pulls Belle aside to discuss a matter of extreme importance — Rumpel’s dagger. Hook seems to be a bit smarter than he is letting on to the rest of the group, claiming that there may be a dark force, perhaps the Dark force lurking on the outskirts of town. If Rumpel gets across the line, the dagger should not be somewhere he would think to look.

But of course, you can never trust a pirate, especially when Gold is using his devilishly good looks for evil.

After getting Belle to give up the dagger, Rumpel/Hook gives her one final test to put her at ease, summon the Dark One. Belle accepts that danger is not as imminent as her gut is letting her believe it is and drives away, leaving the pirate to do what pirates do with treasure.

Rumpel/Hook shows up at the shop a few hours later, to find her swooning over a rose sent by her current fling. Now that Hook’s true identity is known to the audience it is only a matter of time before he uses his charms and their budding friendship to pry into the details of her love life. Stepping over the line in more than one way, has Rumpel finally proven himself unworthy of Belle? Finally?

Regina decides that she is better off taking care of the dark business alone and throws her circa 2005 Blackberry to the curb. With Emma off their tails, Regina takes Pinocchio to Gold’s cabin where the darkness comes out of the shadows and makes his presence known to all the members of the villain party. Pinocchio may not have the answers that they need, but August just might.
