The Spell of Shattered Sight caused quite the stir on tonight’s Once Upon a Time, season 4, episode 10. Find out whose words were the worst!

Ingrid stayed out of the picture last week, but as the Spell of Shattered Sight makes its way into Storybrooke, she works her way back into the frame. At first we catch a glimpse of her in 1982 Boston. When a fortune teller named Madame Foustine, fails to supply her with information about Emma, she marches off to wait out the 28 years until she can coax her under her power. Fast-forward to present day and Storybrooke is a battle ground.

In the Sheriff’s office, marriage seems like the worst possible option for anyone. Snow and David are reduced to their shells as a fraud and the spoiled princess, while Kristoff contemplates giving up on marriage all together. Anna takes a break from the newly wed game, to reveal that the only way they can hope to get even with Ingrid is to follow the story of another glass. In the end, once the King was dead, the spell was lifted. Anna is back on marriage counseling duty with baby Neal under her guard.

But as Emma and Elsa come face to face with Ingrid on the streets they realize that their powers are blocked by the ribbons. Ingrid comments that the love that is contained within those ribbons is without equal, but what about a hatred that will not only equal it?

That particular strain of hatred rests pacing in a vault just on the other side of town. Regina’s Evil Queen persona does not hold back her criticism of the high wasted pant suits, and she transforms back to gorgeous gowns and updos. Once inside the vault, Emma unleashes her trump card to get Regina to reach maximum wickedness. She confesses that she brought back Marian on purpose so that not only would Regina lose Robin, but she would have to see Hook and Emma living their happily ever after. When Regina is about to blast Emma to dust, Elsa and Emma place the ribbons in her path and their freedom is granted. But now… they must run.

1999 Minnesota, Ingrid’s Home for Displaced Children takes in Emma Swan. But Emma is not jibing with the hostile brothers and sisters. When she tries to flee, Ingrid does her best to make her stay with stories from her own experience. When that fails to catch Emma’s attention she offers a secondary reason, exacting revenge on a particularly rude brother with a couple of fake spiders. Some time passes and Ingrid takes Emma to an arcade for a day full of bonding and some important hints about her future. No, we’re not talking just about that carefully placed dalmatian in the game, but the adoption papers in Ingrid’s purse.

But Ingrid gets ahead of herself and ruins a perfectly good comparison to Harry Potter. She tries to tell Emma that she has magic within her that can be activated by response to severe trauma. Ingrid does what anyone would do to trigger that trauma, pushes her in front of a car. Naturally, Emma loses all trust for the “mother figure” who would put her life in danger rather than offer her the chance to liken herself to the boy who lived.

Hook, it turns out, is immune to the spell since his heart is in the custody of a man whose words do not need a spell to eat away at your soul. His next mission is to find Henry and bring him to Rumpel so that he may plan his escape to NYC. Finding Henry proves to be easy, but getting him to travel easily is another story. When Hook opens the door, Henry grants Hook a pratfall and makes his way out of the mansion. Heading after the boy, Will tries to pick a fight, but Hook passes his throw and lets him run into a wall before carrying on his way.

Dark Snow versus Evil Queen; it’s a battle of wits, strength, and decades of pent up anger. David and Mary Margaret have run out of insults and resort to picking on who swaddles the baby better. Meanwhile Kristoff begs for his release from the madness, opting for a poison apple over one more minute of being in Storybrooke. Luckily, when Regina arrives she sends Anna and Kristoff back to where they came from, and tries her luck on the Charmings. The Queen is back in full-force and that huntress we left in the Enchanted Forest is unleashed as the two go sword to sword as David continues to bicker about strollers not being under warranty.

Kristoff and Anna end up near the chest they arrived in and the spell finally rips him completely away from Anna. He craves his simple life with Sven and his ice business free from evil aunts and sisters who create frozen fortresses. Anna has also had enough and knocks him out, conveniently, with the bottle that will solve everything.

Another trip back in time to May 2001, brings Ingrid to Storybrooke where she will wait out her days as the owner of the ice cream parlor until Emma arrives in 2011. But when Emma makes her way in for a pint of cherry vanilla, she gets hit with a blast from the past. Ingrid can see that Emma is not ready to face her, and she takes her memories. It’s not all bad, she got three free pints of ice cream.

In front of Ingrid, Elsa is not able to muster up the will to destroy someone of her own blood. Luckily, Anna charges in at just the right moment to read Gerda’s letter expressing her regrets about what she did do Ingrid. Now that Ingrid has the letter and the love of sister restored, she takes away the spell so that everyone else can enjoy their happiness.

As the spell is extracted throughout the town and a light snow falls. David, Mary Margaret, and Regina enjoy a good laugh and question what just happened as one would a wild night at a fraternity party.

But while the town apologizes for spilled words, Hook makes his dying wish as Belle sleeps through it all. If Emma and the rest of the town remain out of Rumpel’s way, they will remain free from his wrath. But the rest of the world? That is another story.
